Dear Headmistress Q,
As flattered as I am by my nomination, really, I always appreciate it when the student body recognizes my womanly attributes, it only shows some of them have good taste despite their other obvious flaws but I digress. I’m hereby withdrawing from the competition, while I understand the Winter Formal is an important event at school and being among the nominees is held in high esteem, working on a campaign this time of year simply does not fit into my tight academic schedule. As Abuelita likes to say, “educación por sobre todas las cosas”. That means: education comes first, but I’m sure you knew that already, what with you being such a smart, knowledgeable woman and quite an inspiration to us all, if I may add. Hopefully, my decision won’t come across as my being ungrateful, after all, it’s the students who have spoken when they decided to nominate me - rightfully so - and I know how much regard you give to your students’ opinion on these important matters. Speaking of opinions and important matters, if I may, your outfit today looked quite dapper, very Annie Hall minus the fedora. Diane Keaton would be proud.
Atte.,
Santana Lopez

Miss Lopez,
Thank you for the email. I, among the student body understand that academics come first. I am also pleased to see you so involved in your school work compared to last semester. Keep up the good work, and I hope to see you continue this up.
Sincerely,
Headmistress Queller.
